Never forced Arjun to play cricket, says Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar has stated that he has never asked his son Arjun Tendulkar to take up cricket despite the fact that the legendary batsman had a decorated career. The pacer once bowled in the Indian team nets in the past and is currently plying his trade in the Mumbai T20 League.
Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the greatest ever cricketer and even his son Arjun Tendulkar has taken up the same sport. The legendary cricketer has passed on his father Ramesh Tendulkar’s, a novelist, advice to his son too.
“I told him whatever you do in life, don’t take a short-cut, which my father told me, and I tell him exactly the same thing...you will need to work hard and then it is upto you how you fare,” he told reporters in Mumbai, reported PTI.
Arjun was playing for Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburb in the T20 Mumbai League, where he was picked for Rs 5 lakhs in the auctions. The 19-year-old also featured in the semi-finals on Saturday held at the Wankhede Stadium. Sachin reckoned that the local league is a very good platform.
“He needs to do what he and his team want to do. It’s a very good platform and the ups and downs provide a real-life experience,” he asserted.
The youngster was a net bowler during the Champions Trophy in England in 2017 and even in the T20 series against Sri Lanka in December 2017. However, he did play other sports before taking up cricket, shared Sachin.
“He is passionate and I have not forced him for anything. I never forced him to play cricket. He earlier used to play football, then he developed an interest in chess and now he is playing cricket,” he said.
The highest ever run-scorer in international cricket further went on to say that one should always put in the hard work but the results will be in God’s hand.
“It is important to learn and develop, it’s a process. Once a student of this game, a student for the rest of your life. That’s what I try and tell him. Results will be in God’s hand, but to make an effort is in our hands,” reiterated the 46-year-old.
