Visitors will be provided armoured vehicles, says Real Kashmir boss Sandeep Chattoo
With the date of the controversial clash between Real Kashmir and Minerva Punjab yet to be finalized, RK boss Sandeep Chattoo has stated that the visiting teams would be provided with armoured vehicles during their I-League rematch. Punjab has pushed to get down it as soon as possible.
While the I-League is all but over with Chennai City FC being crowned the champions and East Bengal the runners-up, the only redundant and inconsequential fixture left is between Real Kashmir and Minerva Punjab. After Punjab had refused to visit Kashmir following the Pulwama attack, their rematch is yet to finalized by the administration.
However, with the Super Cup Qualifiers scheduled to start from March 15, both the clubs want it to get it over with as soon as possible, and Minerva Punjab owner Ranjit Bajaj has also been pushing for it. But, with no solution in sight as if now, Real Kashmir boss Chattoo has assured high security for the visiting team.
“When we get the clearance from the authorities there should not be any problem. The team will be taken care of well and provided armoured vehicles to travel from the hotel to the stadium and back. That’s how it has always been here. We are absolutely ready to host them,” Chattoo told PTI.
“If we get the go-ahead in a day or two, we presume the match could be held around March 20,” he further added.
The match was scheduled to be played on February 18, four days after the terror attack near Srinagar. Punjab had refused to travel stating that their foreign players were advised against it by their respective embassies in the country. Real Kashmir, however, had turned up for the game stating that all the security arrangements were in place and demanding three points after Minerva’s no-show.
However, the administration hasn’t abided by it and Real Kashmir FC co-owner Chattoo has now said that he was “very optimistic” about a security clearance in a day or two from the concerned authorities.
“Ideally, the match should have taken place by now. It should be held as soon as possible as the Super Cup is also starting soon. We are always ready to play in Srinagar provided we are given security assurances,” Chattoo added.
