Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul show caused by COA for derogatory comments on women
Hardik Pandya’s comments on women in talk show "Koffee with Karan" had created uproar in the nation that has now forced COA to give them a show cause notice despite Pandya’s apology. Both Pandya and Rahul have been given 24 hours by COA to provide an explanation about their comments.
The KWK episode featuring the two budding cricketers on the celebrity chat show was definitely one of the most awaited ones this season. However, it ended with the 25-year-old all-rounder facing severe backlash by the public after Pandya boasted of hooking up with multiple women and openly speaking about it with their parents.
That was not all as when host Karan Johar asked Pandya why he didn't ask women their names in a club, Pandya, "I like to watch and observe how they (women) move. I'm little from the black side so I need to see how they move."
This comment drew a plethora of criticism on social media and has eventually prompted the BCCI to consider banning players from appearing on chat shows. Though Pandya was quick to apologize on Twitter stating that, “After reflecting on my comments on Koffee with Karan, I would like to apologise to everyone concerned who I may have hurt in any way. Honestly, I got a bit carried away with the nature of the show. In no way did I mean to disrespect or hurt anyone's sentiments. Respect."
COA has now given a show cause notice to the players claiming that the apology wasn’t enough. A BCCI official told Hindustan Times, “This attempt at an apology does in no way bring the issue to closure. This merely shows how lightly he takes the gravely serious issue of respecting women. His conduct was unacceptable. He needs to understand the impact the utterances of an international cricketer have in this country but more importantly, he needs to learn how to differentiate between the right and the wrong. Right now he seems to merely respond to the outrage and not to his own thought process and conduct.”
Former BCCI General Manager (Game Development) Ratnakar Shetty, who is currently associated with Uttarakhand as BCCI nominee, has also made his displeasure known. He said, “This is disgraceful and not acceptable from someone who represents the country and I will be writing to the Committee of Administrators so that these things are not repeated. I have also tweeted how I feel.”
