Rupa Gurunath, the daughter of former BCCI President N Srinivasan, has been unanimously elected as the president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA). Meanwhile, former Saurashtra captain Jaydev Shah, son of Niranjan Shah, has taken charge at the Saurashtra Cricket Association.

Under the amendments made to the BCCI’s constitution, neither Srinivasan nor Shah can hold office in the BCCI or any of its member associations. However, through Rupa and Jaydev, they once again extend their links with cricket administration in the country.

Rupa and her office bearers were elected unopposed, although she herself has never held an administrative position in cricket before, nor was she a member of the state’s cricket association. Instead, she is a full-time director at India Cements, the company owned by Srinivasan and which owns the IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings.

Her husband, Gurunath Meiyappan, a former CSK official, was banned for life from any involvement in cricket after being found guilty in the IPL betting scandal in 2013 by the Justice RM Lodha Committee.

Meanwhile, 36-year-old Jaydev was a first-class cricketer who retired from all forms of cricket last season, after scoring 5354 runs at an average of 29.91 in 120 first-class matches.
