Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, following stalled contract talks between Isak and the club. The Swedish forward, who has scored 25 goals in 40 appearances last season, has struggled with injury this season. Arsenal were linked with Isak over the summer, and Paul Merson believes he could be the missing player for the Gunners.

With the January transfer window approaching, the Gunners are reportedly eyeing Newcastle United's Alexander Isak as a potential target. The Swedish striker, 25, has been linked with a move to the Emirates after contract negotiations with Newcastle stalled. Despite having three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal, Isak’s future at St. James' Park looks uncertain, and Arsenal could seize the opportunity to strengthen their forward line.

Isak had a standout 2022-2023 season, scoring 25 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions, showcasing his ability to lead the line and make a significant impact. However, his start to the current season has been underwhelming, with just one goal in his first seven matches, partly due to a broken toe that kept him sidelined for three games.

Arsenal were linked with several forwards over the summer, including Isak, Viktor Gyokeres, and Victor Osimhen, as they sought to bolster their attacking options. Despite interest in multiple strikers, Mikel Arteta and the club opted not to bring in a new forward, even with Eddie Nketiah leaving for Crystal Palace. Paul Merson, a former Arsenal player, has expressed his admiration for Isak, believing he would have been the ideal addition to Arsenal’s squad. With Isak potentially available next summer, Arsenal could look to make a move and finally secure the missing piece to their attack.
