Vijay Hazare Trophy | Mandeep Singh to captain Punjab in 2018-19 season

Mandeep Singh, has been named as the captain of the Punjab team for the 2018-19 season and will begin their campaign against Himachal Pradesh on September 19. The Punjab side includes the players like Yuvraj Singh, Manan Vohra, Siddarth Kaul, and youngsters Shubman Gill and Mayank Markande.

Right-handed batsman, Mandeep Singh, has been chosen as the leader of the Punjab team for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Singh will be joined all-rounder Gurkeerat Singh who will act as the vice-captain for the tournament. Mandeep has replaced spinning great Harbhajan Singh as Punjab's captain after Harbhajan failed to make it to the squad this year. 

Singh’s appointment as the skipper will serve as a surprise as it was Yuvraj Singh who used to lead Punjab in the absence of Harbhajan. But the Punjab selectors have opted to go with Mandeep for this season. Meanwhile, Manan Vohra, Gitansh Khera, and Anmolpreet Singh have also been named in the team. 

The 16-member squad also included former India U-19 cricketers Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Arshdeep Singh. The young triplet was a part of Rahul Dravid’s talented team that won the junior World Cup earlier this year. Gill has already played for India A and featured frequently for KKR this IPL whereas Arshdeep is yet to make his debut in senior cricket. Abhishek made his debut for Punjab last season and also played three IPL matches for Delhi Daredevils this season.
