According to reports, Virat Kohli has hurt his finger during the team’s training session at Southampton on Saturday ahead of their encounter against South Africa to be played on Wednesday. The extent of the injury is not known yet and there is no official announcement from the management as well.

The Indian team had a training session at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton where they are scheduled to play South Africa on Saturday. Virat Kohli gave a major scare to the team as he hurt his thumb while training, just four days ahead of India’s opening encounter of the World Cup. It is unclear whether the skipper was batting in the nets or doing a fielding drill.

India physiotherapist Patrick Farhart also spent time nursing Kohli’s injury. Farhart first used the magic spray and even taped the top-ranked batsman’s thumb, reported Hindustan Times.

The skipper looked to be in discomfort after the incident and even walked off the field with his thumb dipped in a glass full of ice.

There is no official word either from the management or the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) and the developments will be closely watched by the Indian cricket fans.

India have had their share of injuries even before the start of their campaign. Kedar Jadhav had injured his shoulder during the Indian Premier League and is yet to recover fully. The middle-order batsman did not feature in the two warm-up games too. Vijay Shankar is another player who had to miss out the first warm-up clash after a ball hit his forearm while batting in the nets.
