A BCCI official has claimed that dropping Dhoni was not an independent decision only made by the selectors but the Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were onboard with that decision as well. Dhoni has been dropped from the shortest format squad for both the Windies and Australia series.

The recent form of India’s World Cup winning captain has not been something to be proud of. Though his keeping instincts are still top notch, the same can't be said about his batting prowess. Even looking at his recent performances like in the Asia Cup, he looked nowhere close to the ones of the once world’s best finisher. The news of MS Dhoni being dropped from the T20 squad of the team for both the home series against West Indies and away series against Australia did not please MS Dhoni fans though and a clarification has come as to why the decision was taken.

"It's a given that Dhoni won't be around when next ICC World T20 happens in Australia in 2020. So, there wasn't any point continuing with him if he will not play World T20," a senior BCCI official said on Saturday, reported Times Now.

There have been a few issues popping up in past few weeks regarding selection of players for various series. Players like Murali Vijay and Karun Nair going on record about lack of communication from the selectors. Now dropping MS Dhoni seems to be causing some discomfort for the selectors, this time from the fans though.

"Obviously, the selectors and team management had a good deliberation on this issue. Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were present at the selection committee meeting. You think selectors could have gone ahead without their approval?" the official added.

With age causing problems in batting for MS Dhoni and still 16 ODI matches to go before the World Cup in England for India, the former skipper will have to come back strong as players like Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik and Parthiv Patel are already knocking on the doors to get a permanent slot in the team.
