IND vs WI | Roston Chase brings value to ODI team, states Kieron Pollard
Kieron Pollard believes that all-rounder Roston Chase adds great value to the team, having the ability to win matches with both bat and ball. Chase burst into the scene in Tests when India toured the Windies where he scored an unbeaten 137 and on top of that, also has a Test 8-wkt haul to his name.
Kieron Pollard admitted that the Windies' side needs a bit of experience and stability in their flamboyant middle order and feels that both the elements are brought to the table by Roston Chase, who has already made a name for himself in the Test format. Pollard believes that Chase’s all-round prowess could help the Windies side immensely against India in the ODI series, starting on December 15.
"I think he brings balance to the whole team. He's, first of all, a Test batsman - he has Test hundreds - and that in itself is a great asset for us," Pollard said, reported Cricbuzz.
“Having a guy who bats in the middle order in Test cricket coming in and in one-day cricket can do any role. Given that, he can bowl as well it gives an opportunity to play an extra bowler or an extra allrounder or an extra batsman. So, he has been very valuable for us.”
Further, Pollard was confident that despite it being a left-field choice, Chase would be the right person to hold the middle order together with his experience. The Windies skipper also pointed out that the side must have a clear vision on how they approach the 50-over format, after their miserable show in the 2019 World Cup.
"We need to be clear on how to play the game and we need to get guys who are responsible and accountable for those things. It's a process that we are going through. The results might not show straightaway.”
The 32-year-old also urged the players to fulfil their potential to help the Windies cricket move forward as a pack of quality players instead of just being talented individuals. "I'm not saying the guys haven't done it - they've done it. We, as individuals, see how guys work hard and the results doesn't reflect. Sometimes we need to do the extra, and that's something we've spoken about with this bunch of guys we have.”
