ICC World Cup 2019 | Shikhar Dhawan refuses to give up post injury as he tweets an inspirational message
Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan posted a short motivational poem on his Twitter account which reflected his never say die attitude after he suffered an injury setback in the game against Australia on Sunday. The opener is likely to miss at least two weeks of action of the ongoing World Cup.
Only a very few things can be more heartbreaking than suffering an injury that keeps you from playing and performing on cricket’s biggest platform, a chance that comes every four years and is only given to the very best out there, especially when one is in as good a form as Shikhar Dhawan is in. The left-handed opener scored a scintillating 117 against the Kangaroos to set up his team for a six-run victory as he walked away with the Man of the Match award.
However, it was announced the very next day that the batsman had been hit on the thumb while batting and scans had revealed that he had a hairline fracture on his left thumb which would require him to spend at least a couple of weeks on the sidelines, possibly even three. However, the 33-year-old from Delhi maintained his good spirits as he tweeted a four-line poem by famous Urdu poet and Bollywood lyricist Dr. Rahat Indori.
"Kabhi mehek ki tarah hum gulon se udte hain... Kabhi dhuyein ki tarah hum parbaton se udte hain... Ye kainchiyaan humein udne se khaak rokengi... Ke hum paron se nahin hoslon se udte hain," his tweet read, which basically sends the message that it his courage that would always make him soar and be successful.

The injury means KL Rahul would most likely get to bat in his favoured position at the top of the order instead of coming in at number four while reportedly Rishabh Pant has been called over to England to replace Dhawan in the matchday squad until he completely recovers. Either of Jadeja, Karthik or Vijay Shankar are expected to make their way into the playing XI in Dhawan's absence.
The Men in Blue will go head to head against New Zealand on Thursday at Trent Bridge with both teams having a 100% win record so far in the quadrennial tournament.
