Reports | Leroy Sane's move to Bayern Munich in jeopardy
Manchester City ace Leroy Sane's proposed transfer to Bayern Munich has hit another hurdle. So far, Bayern have been unable to match City’s valuation of the prolific winger and the situation has become worse with Sane sustaining a knee injury during Sunday's Community Shield against Liverpool.
Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have closely followed Leroy Sane throughout the transfer window. With the exit of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, the club are on the lookout for a player who can emulate their successes. This has seen them set their sights on German International Leroy Sane, who stood out with his performances last year, helping Man City lift the Premier League title.
However, the German club have been put down by City's £135million valuation of Sane. The player also has turned down a contract extension, which would tie him down at the Etihad Stadium. The 23-year-old left Wembley with heavy strapping on his right knee after a clash with Liverpool's English right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, ten minutes into Sunday’s Community Shield match.
Although the injury was not considered serious, reports have emerged that state otherwise. As a result, Sane's immediate future is now thrown into doubt. City are adamant they want market value for the 23-year-old and will not part with anything less than their valuation. The club has pointed out that a similar situation played out when Barcelona signed Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
The officials at Allianz Arena are unwilling to shell out such a hefty amount for the former Schalke player. With the German transfer window open till September 2, it remains to be seen whether Pep Guardiola changes his stance and decides to let the German International join Bayern.
