Chris Gayle believes Virat Kohli can break Sachin Tendulkar's records

Chris Gayle has suggested that Virat Kohli has the potential to break the legendary Sachin Tendulkar's records owing to his consistently exceptional run-scoring record. Gayle, 37, has also urged the Australian cricketers to stand their ground against Cricket Australia in the ongoing pay dispute.

West Indies' explosive batsman Chris Gayle lavished praises on his Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli, hailing him for his mindset and consistency suggesting that the 28-year old had the abilities to surpass Sachin Tendulkar's record of most centuries in international cricket. Virat Kohli has already scored a total of 44 centuries in international cricket with 16 coming in Tests and 28 in ODIs at an impeccable average of 49.41 and 54.68 respectively.

“Well I still see him progressing in his career. A lot more runs to score and he can only get better and better and gain more experience as well. He will be one of the top guys, maybe even target Sachin Tendulkar for the most centuries and get those hundreds. He is still young, energetic and fit and can get those milestones as well. His mindset is to reach the ultimate milestones of all times,” Gayle told CricketNext.

The 37-year old who has been a part of the Australian Big Bash League backed Australian skipper Steve Smith and other Australian cricketers in their ongoing pay dispute with Cricket Australia suggesting the players should get what they deserve. Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricketers Association(ACA) have been involved in an ugly pay dispute that saw more than 200 Australian players rejecting contract renewal after the two parties did not sign a new Memorandum Of Understanding(MOU).

“To be very honest I have not been following or have not spoken to anyone about it. But yes, I am aware of their situation. It is something that I have been involved with myself before. I am standing with the players and hope they stand firm and get what they deserve,” he said.

Gayle made a comeback to the West Indian T20 side after a period of 5 months against India and expressed his desire to play for his country in the 2019 World Cup as well.

“It is obviously great to be back in national colours. Obviously, I hope to get back into the squad. Our main aim will be to put up a great show and collectively win the 2019 World Cup. Yes, I do look to play as long as possible and till the time my body permits,” he said.

Gayle has been a part of the Indian Premier League since its inception and has become a popular name amongst Indian fans. The eleventh edition of the league could see Gayle donning a new team's jersey as it would start with a mega auction where all players would be available for bidding again. The explosive Jamaican expressed his wish to remain a part of the lucrative league for as long as he possibly can.

“I have had no such conversations yet, neither do I have any idea what the outcome will be — of the mega auction. We’ve to see what the rules are first. Definitely the plan would be to associate with the IPL for longer time,” he said.
