Yuzvendra Chahal has backed Rohit Sharma to do well as the captain of the Indian team in the upcoming limited overs series against Sri Lanka. Chahal has also accepted that India have to be mentally strong for the South Africa tour but first need to focus on the Sri Lanka series.

After winning the three-Test match series against Sri Lanka, Team India is ready to play limited over series which will start on December 10. Ahead of the series, Virat Kohli was handed a rest by the management and to be ready for the much-awaited tour of South Africa. In Kohli's absence, Rohit Sharma will take on the role of the Indian skipper for the three-match ODI series and the same number of T20I against the Lankans.

Apart from Team India, Chahal played a lot of cricket under Kohli’s captaincy for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. However, it was Rohit, who has won three IPL titles with the Mum bai franchise, who handed Chahal his IPL debut the Mumbai Indians.

"I made my IPL debut in 2013 and played my first match in Mumbai Indians under Rohit. Just like Virat bhai, Rohit is also an aggressive captain and likes to lead from the front," Chahal told India TV.

"We cannot compare the two captains as both have their own style of leading the side but we are aware that they both are hungry for wins.

"Rohit has done a good job for the Mumbai Indian in the IPL and has led them to victory in the last edition of the IPL as well."

After completing the home series against Sri Lanka, India are scheduled to leave for an important tour of South Africa where they will play three Tests, six ODIs, and three T20Is. The tour considered as the biggest challenge the all-conquering Indian team as they have never beaten the South Africans in a Test series in Africa.

"We have to be mentally strong to prepare to face a team like South Africa in their own backyard. But, I'm presently looking at the upcoming ODI series and T20I series vs SL, we still have time for SA tour to think about," he explained.
