The IPL has already seen some of the worst fielding displays in the 10 seasons that the tournaments graced Indian televisions. But in a display of fielding that can only be categorized as amateurish, Mishra and Samson made a huge mess of a simple catch that would have sent Robin Uthappa packing.

Delhi had made a great start to their 161 target defence, dismissing the dangerous Sunil Narine early and with Kagiso Rabada wreaking havoc, they were handed yet another chance. In the sixth over, Uthappa was beaten for pace and ended up skying the shot after attempting a pull shot. The ball went up a significant distance and with two players closing in, it appeared Uthappa's time at the crease was up.Ā

However, Amit Mishra, running in from short fine leg, and Sanju Samson, coming in from square leg, were both in contention forĀ the catch. It appeared Mishra gave a call for the catch and Samson stopped a good three feet from where the ball was dropping. The problem was, even though Mishra appeared to have given the call, he too stopped short of where the ball was dropping. Eventually, the ball almost bisected the two fielders and Uthappa was gifted another life.

The hilarious part was the expressions on the faces of all the Delhi players in the aftermath of the drop. While Zaheer Khan stood there trying to instil confidence in his team, Rabada was left shell shocked. The two guilty parties were too bamboozled to actually say anything as Samson just turned his back and started walking back to his fielding position while Misha appeared to paralysed with shock and righteous anger after what had just transpired.Ā
