Indian T20I captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, admitted that the plan to go all-out attack against England backfired for her team as they were knocked out of the ICC Women’s World T20 on Thursday. Team India suffered an eight-wicket defeat after they had posted a total of 112 in the first innings.

The Indian women’s cricket team looked in sizzling form ahead of the semi-final against England as they remained unbeaten in the ICC Women’s World T20 being held in the Caribbean. However, Harmanpreet Kaur & Co. were left to pick up the ashes as they slumped to an embarrassing eight-wicket loss against England which brought the Indian's promising campaign to a premature end.

And Indian skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur who scored a blistering hundred in the tournament opener, admitted that the plan to go all-out attack on their English opponents worked against them at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, which offered more turn to the spinners.

"I'll say if you see throughout the tournament our approach was attack, so that is the reason. We wanted to attack. I think sometimes it works your way and sometimes it doesn't work. So I think that was our plan, to attack. And I know the wicket was a bit different here, again at the beginning it was different," Kaur said in a post-match interview.

Another major talking point in India's defeat was the team management’s decision to leave out the fit-again Mithali Raj, who was the top scorer for India in T20Is and also registered back-to-back fifties in this tournament against Ireland and Pakistan. Raj, who also served as the ODI captain for the Indian team, had missed the side's last group game against Australia because of a knee injury. Kaur went on to praise the efforts of 18-year-old Jemimah Rodrigues who chipped in with handy contributions throughout the course of the tournament,

"We were going with a winning combination. We did really well against Australia. And that is the reason we just wanted to go with the same combination without Mithali.

"When you're building the team, you need some more young players to come and perform. I think we are quite a young team and they're doing well. Jemi, she's very mature. She has adapted to the international level very early. It's a learning process and it's like building the team. If we get some more young players who take the responsibility, that will be great for us," Harmanpreet added.
