Ehsan Mani elected new PCB Chairman unopposed
Former President of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Ehsan Mani has been elected as the new Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unopposed. Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is the Patron of PCB according to the constitution, had nominated Mani to the Board of Governors.
Former PCB chairman Najam Sethi had tendered his resignation last month after Khan's election as the new Prime Minister. Khan had then nominated Mani to the BoG and in a time period of four days while also nominating Asad Ali Khan to the BoG. A special meeting was conducted in order to elect the new chairman of PCB by its election commissioner Justice - Afzal Haider. Mani, being the only member to file his nomination out of the 10, was appointed as the new chairman of PCB, after his papers were analysed.
As is mentioned in the PCB constitution, two members of the BoG are nominated by the Patron of the country's cricket board. The remaining eight members come from the areas those have been performing well and from service organisations of Pakistan's premier first-class tournament - Quaid-e-Azam Trophy. There is an 11th member, whose appointment is decided by the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination. The member is an ex-officio, who can put forward their opinions but can't participate in voting.
Mani was elected as the President of ICC in 2003. By profession, Mani is a Chartered Accountant and from 1989 to 1996, he was a representative of PCB in the world body. After that, he was elected unopposed as the chairman of ICC Finance and Marketing committee. He was a representative of Pakistan in the organising committee, during the 1996 World Cup and was a member of the advisory committee for the 1999 World Cup.
