DDCA president, Rajat Sharma had called in for a meeting with all selectors and eminent cricketers to discuss the future of Anuj Dedha following the assault on Amit Bhandari. He had been in agreement with Gautam Gambhir and said that imposing a life ban on the player would be appropriate.

In a sudden turn of events, former India pacer and Delhi selector Amit Bhandari was attacked by a group for refusing to select Anuj Dedha in the U-23 squad. As an outcome, Bhandari sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment but the attack had left him traumatized.

Sharma has now rendered full support to Bhandari assuring that the system would continue to work based on merit and transparency. He had summoned a meeting with all the selectors for various age groups to discuss the incident and decide the fate of Dedha. He has been poised on imposing a life ban on the player and regarded it as a formality.

“We have a meeting tomorrow but as our former captain Gautam Gambhir has suggested, I think there is no other option left apart from imposing a life ban on this man Anuj Dedha. Whatever he has done, he only deserves exemplary punishment,” Sharma told PTI on Tuesday.

Moreover, he also mentioned that the meeting would address other selection issues too and that the selectors would be assured so that, they shall continue to select players fearlessly and free of deceit.

“We need to discuss selection issues but I want to assure all selectors that they should continue to fearlessly select sides. I am with them. I have met the Lt Governor Anil Baijal and requested him to ask the police authorities to probe all angles. I would like to know if there is any deep-rooted conspiracy in this attack,” Sharma concluded.
