Chennai Super Kings beat Punjab Kings in the reverse fixture in Dharamsala to stay alive in the playoffs contention. Ravindra Jadeja’s 43 and a three-fer coupled with Tushar Deshpande’s early scalps helped CSK defend 167 runs total and earn a win after

Brief Scores: CSK: 167/9  [Jadeja: 43, Gaikwad: 32, Chahar: 4-0-23-3] beat PBKS: 139/9 [Prabhsimran: 30, Shashank: 27; Jadeja: 4-0-20-3] by 28 runs.

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was unlucky for the tenth time during the toss in the ongoing edition and was forced to bat first. Ajinkya Rahane failed to get going after a glorious straight drive and Daryl Mitchell joined hands with Ruturaj Gaikwad to stitch a 57-run second-wicket stand. After the 60 runs powerplay, the introduction of Rahul Chahar and Harshal Patel rewarded PBS with both wickets and Shivam Dube, reducing CSK to 76/4 in nine overs. The spin all-rounder trio of Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mitchell Santner added 41 runs in the next six overs for the loss of the former with the CSK at 117/5. However, Jadeja continued to drag the game deep despite a couple of wickets from Harshal Patel including a MS Dhoni golden duck. The all-rounder’s 43 including a few lusty blows at the fag end eventually, propelled CSK to 167/9 in 20 overs.

In response, the Punjab Kings suffered a couple of early jitters after a three-run first over from Mitchell Santner when Tushar Deshpande cleaned up Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw in the second over. Although Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank played through the powerplay phase, scoring 47 runs within the field restrictions, Santner concluded his brisk knock in the eighth over. Prabhsimran (30) and Jitesh Sharma followed suit in back-to-back overs followed by Ravindra Jadeja outsmarting Sam Curran and Ashutosh Sharma in the 13th over to reduce them to 79/7 in 13 overs. Some late flurry from Harshal Patel, Harpreet Brar, and Rahul Chahar took them to 105/8 in 16 overs before Chahar was cleaned up by Shardul in the 18th over. However, the equation was too much for the tail and Kagiso Rabada and Brar played through despite succumbing to a 28 runs loss.
