Man Kaur wants to continue winning more medals stating that the feeling of winning a medal for the country delights her. Kaur was introduced to athletics at the age of 93 by her son Gurdev Singh after he saw many centenarian women taking part in various athletics competitions around the world.

Man Kaur has already started preparing for upcoming competitions, even though she just won the Track and Field gold medal in World Masters meet in Spain.

"I want to win more. I feel very happy after winning. The government has not given me anything, but it doesn't matter as I just want to run, because running gives me happiness," Kaur told PTI over the phone.

She is not just a runner as she has also won a gold medal in javelin throw apart from winning 200-metre race in the 100-to-104 age group at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Malaga, Spain. She completed the 200m race in 3 minutes and 14.65 seconds. The World Masters Athletics Championships has events like track and field, cross country, and road running, for athletes above 35 years of age.

"One should eat well and exercise. Don't eat junk food and respect your elders," the centenarian advised the younger generation.

Man’s prowess of athletics is known but her son Gurdev Singh also takes part in athletics, he is 80 years old.

“We have already drawn up plans for the next three years -- in Torun, Poland, next year, in Toronto, Canada, 2020, and, Kansai region of western Japan in 2021. In 2021, she will be 105 plus. We are eyeing that (event) as well," Singh says.

“She does a warm up everyday, then two sprints of 100 metres each, followed by four sprints of 30 metres. In the end, she does slow running for 200 metres.”
