Weightlifting Nationals | K Ravikumar of Odisha wins gold in the men’s 89 kg category

K Ravikumar has won the gold medal in the men’s 89 kg category at the senior National weightlifting championships defeating Harshad Wadekar of Railways at the Railway Indoor Sports Enclave in Visakhapatnam. P Anuradha of Tamil Nadu has claimed the gold in the women’s 87 kg category of the event.

K Ravikumar has routed his counterparts to win the gold medal at the 89 kg category at the senior Nationals weightlifting championship. The 2018 senior Nationals bronze medallist, made an improvement this year to be crowned the winner.

The gold medallist soared upto 192 kg and made an exceptional final lift to finish successfully in the clean and jerk. While Harshad took an early advantage over Ravikumar in snatch after both had best lifts of 150, Harshad settled for silver after he failed in his final attempt for 192 kg (His best being 182 kg.)

Last year men’s 85 kg Nationals’ winner, RV Rahul battled it out against Jagdish Vishwakarma in clean and jerk after finishing fifth in snatch with 142 kg, to claim the bronze. Vishwakarma was third in snatch with his best of 147 kg but went down to Rahul by one kg in clean and jerk as he failed to clear 188 kg after the final attempt.

P Anuradha of Tamil Nadu won the women's 87 kg gold medal in the senior Nationals that held near the railway stadium at Visakhapatnam on Tuesday while Purnima Pandey of Uttar Pradesh grabbed gold in the plus 87 kg category, reported ToI.
