Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals by 20 runs in the Arun Jaitley Stadium to strengthen their qualification chances. Flamboyant knocks from Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abishek Porel, and Tristan Stubbs eclipse Samson’s resilient 84 with the Capitals bowler defending 221 comprehensively.

‌Brief Scores: DC: 221/8 [Porel: 65, Fraser-McGurk: 50; Ashwin: 4-0-24-3] beat RR: 201/8 [Samson: 86, Parag: 27; 4-0-25-2] by 20 runs.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl first backfired initially for the Rajasthan Royals as Jake Fraser-McGurk took their new ball bowlers to the cleaners. He smashed the bowlers for seven fours and three sixes to pile up 50 runs in just 19 balls with the score reading 59/0 in four overs. Following an Avesh Khan 28-run over, Ravichandran Ashwin removed Fraser-McGurk off a full-toss, followed by Shai Hope getting unlucky at the non-striker’s end to sum up a 78-run powerplay. The Capitals added 37 runs in the next four overs for the loss of Axar Patel, followed by a 34-run partnership before Ashwin scalped his third wicket by outfoxing Porel for 36-ball 65. With Rishabh Pant following him in the next over, DC’s score reflected 156/5 in 15 overs before Gulbadin Naib and Tristan Stubbs added 45 runs together. Subsequently, the Proteas produced some lusty blows, helping the side reach 221/8 in 20 overs. In response, the Royals lost Yashasvi Jaiswal in the first over, followed by Sanju Samson occupying the driving seat with Jos Buttler playing second fiddle. The pair added 58 runs for the last four overs of the powerplay for the loss of the Englishman. Following 67 runs inside the powerplay, Riyan Parag and Samson consolidated 36 runs before the former was cleaned up by Rasikh Salem in the eleventh over. With 119 runs needed off the last nine overs, Samson accelerated with Shubham Dubey, extracting 56 runs off the next four overs and keeping RR in the chase. However, Samson fell victim to a controversial umpiring verdict in the next over before Rovman Powell’s lusty blows curtailed the equation to 29 needed off the last over. Mukesh Kumar defended it brilliantly against the tail, removing Powell and helping DC steal a 20-run triumph.
