BCCI Ombudsman sends notices to Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for deposition
KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya have been served notice to appear for deposition by the Supreme Court-appointed BCCI Ombudsman DK Jain amidst the IPL season. He has also received a complaint alleging Sourav Ganguly of ‘Conflict of Interest’ in his role as CAB President as well as Delhi Capitals advisor.
Indian cricket stars Pandya and Rahul had created a massive storm with their sexist comment on TV chat show “Koffee with Karan”, which had even resulted in the duo getting temporary suspended from the squad. However, with the inquiry by the Ombudsman pending, the duo saw their ban getting lifted by BCCI in a matter of a week.
Now, with the Supreme Court appointing an Ombudsman for BCCI in Justice (Retd) DK Jain, the duo has been issued notices to appear for the deposition for their sexist comments.
“I have issued notices last week to Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul asking them to appear for deposition,” Justice Jain told PTI on Monday.
The players have taken their time to inculcate themselves into the national as well as the IPL sides and are very much in the World Cup plans that has been scheduled to start from May end. A notice now would make it difficult for BCCI to ask IPL franchises Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab about the leave of their regulars’ absence. It has been also been learnt by PTI that they might be deposed ahead of the April 11 clash between the two teams in Mumbai.
“Both are playing IPL and the itinerary is packed with back to back matches and a gruelling travel schedule,” a BCCI official said.
It has also been learnt that the players would be needed to appear in person and not through their legal representatives and a BCCI official has anonymously stated that the player responding to the notice would be the only logical way to conclude the proceedings.
“As per principles of natural justice, I need to hear their side. It’s up to them now to decide when they want to appear,” Justice Jain said.
Jain has also revealed that he has received a complaint about Sourav Ganguly’s alleged ‘Conflict of Interest’ for his dual role as the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president as well as the adviser to Delhi Capitals.
“I am supposed to receive a fresh set of complaints on various issues today. I don’t know whether the issue (Ganguly’s Conflict) is in this lot or not. As and when I get the details, I will have a detailed look into the matter,” said Jain.
