Reports | BCCI, CA, ECB threaten to find ‘other solutions’ if ICC fails to find consensus on Chairman issue

There has been a loggerhead of sorts between the ICC and The Big Three following the ICC’s delay in an announcement about the Chairman selection procedure that has been pending for over three months now. So much so that the Big Three threaten to find ‘other solutions’ if ICC fails to find consensus.

Since Shashank Manohar vacated the ICC Chairman position after refusing to take another extension, the position has been temporarily filled by Singapore’s Imran Khawaja but nothing permanent has been disclosed yet. There have been multiple meetings in which the issue was discussed in detail but the inability to arrive at a decision on whether the ballot for an election should be held on simple majority or a two-third one has left the board searching for sanity.

In the wake of the same, the Times of India reported that the ICC sat down with Sourav Ganguly on multiple occasions, but there has been no solution yet. The Big Three are skewed in the direction of the simple majority but made this clear to the ICC that instead, the governing body doesn’t pursue this, they will be left with no choice but to find "other solutions".

“Global cricket administration is being held to ransom so, BCCI can make one thing clear: Indian cricket is self-sustainable and can fend for itself by playing the IPL and select bilateral tours until this issue is sorted. How do the other boards intend to pursue this matter?" a BCCI official told ToI.

ToI reported sources in the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) citing, “what is happening is extremely unhealthy for the game, especially when it is at an inflexion point where finances are concerned. What ICC needs is somebody who can drive the game's global economics forward.”

Many in the BCCI targets Khawaja for the same, taking on the fact how can a member from a country like Singapore, which doesn’t even play top-grade cricket, can be allowed to lead the ICC on an interim basis. The official cited the example of if the West would allow someone from India being the head of FIFA. It has gone to a point where things have been left in conjecture with a little to no real story coming out.
