The BCCI has announced the squads for the upcoming ODI and T20 series against England. The biggest surprise is, of course, Yuvraj Singh making a return to the ODI and T20 team, while Rishabh Pant makes an entry into the T20 squad on the back on his explosive batting in the ongoing Ranji season.

The MSK Prasad-led selection panel has continued its formula of injecting young blood into the team, but has made a major departure by bringing back old warhorse Yuvraj Singh into the squad.

Yuvraj Singh last played an ODI in the Indian blues in December of 2013 against South Africa at Centurion. The veteran had played his final T20I in the T20 World Cup against Australia at Mohali in March of 2016 when he had suffered a crippling thigh strain but had continued to bat on for a while.

Delhi batsman Rishabh Pant, who recently made history by scoring the fastest century in Ranji Trophy, has earned a place in the T20 side alongside left-hander Suresh Raina, who had unfortunately missed the series against New Zealand due to a bout of flu.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been reportedly nursing a sports hernia that kept him out of Tamil Nadu's Ranji Trophy matches until yesterday, has been called upon alongside partner-in-crime Ravindra Jadeja. The retention of the duo despite the impending arrival of the Australians next month shows the respect the selectors hold for the visiting English team under Eoin Morgan. They may not be pushovers like the Test team that left the Indian shores.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya, who had to pull out of the Test series against England due to a shoulder injury, has also returned to the limited-overs side.

But surprisingly enough, Karun Nair, who scored a brilliant triple-century in the fifth Test against England, has been snubbed by the selection committee. Meanwhile, Haryana leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been picked for the 3 T20Is for his brilliant performances in IPL 2016 with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
