A terrible outing at the World Artistic Gymnastic Championships saw India’s women contingent performing poorly as no one could qualify for any of the individual apparatus finals and thereby for the finals in Stuttgart, Germany. They also couldn’t qualify for the Tokyo Olympics next year.

It was a black day on the calendar of Indian gymnastics as all their women gymnasts failed to make a mark in the event. The women’s all-round qualification saw both Pranati Nayak and Pranati Das performing poorly finishing 127th and 132nd after scoring 45.832 and 45.248 respectively. Apart from them, India’s big hope Aruna Reddy couldn’t even register a score in the event.

The vault event saw Nayak scoring 14.200 in her first attempt, but it all was flushed down as she got a neutral deduction in her second attempt ruling her out of the Finals. She ended up finishing 27th in the vault qualification.

In the uneven bars qualification, all three - Nayak, Das, and Reddy - saw scores of 10.566, 9.916 and 8.925 respectively, finishing 164th, 182nd, and 193rd respectively. The balance beam qualification didn’t have a very different scenario either as Das (10.866), Reddy (10.200) and Nayak (9.933) finished at 138th, 164th and 174th spots respectively.

The floor exercise qualification was even worse than the balance beam as Das (11.466) and Nayak (11.133) finished 151st and 179th positions, while Reddy couldn’t even finish the event.
