Indian basketballer star Satnam Singh Bhamara has joined the Canadian NBL with his new team St. John's Edge for the 2018-19 season. Satnam was the first India born player to be drafted by an NBA team, when the Dallas Mavericks chose him with the 52nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft.

Satnam Singh Bhamara made history back in 2015 when he was chosen to play for the Dallas Mavericks for the 2015 season of the NBA. He's been an inspiration for young basketballers in India for a long time now and recently took to Twitter to make a fresh announcement in relation to his professional career.

“I am really excited to be a part of St Johns Edge. It’s a very proud moment, and I am sure this will encourage many others to pick up basketball as a career. I am very thankful to everyone who supported me and helped me become who I am today,” said Bhamara.

Dough Plumb, Head Coach, St John’s Edge, said, “Were excited to add Satnam to our team, he brings a history of NBA and international playing pedigree to our team.

“It’s remarkable to truly understand where he’s come from and where he is today. This is a great signing not only for our organisation but for our league.”

The Punjab-born player has revealed that he has crossed the North American border and switched from the Mavericks to Canadian National Basketball League franchise - St. John's Edge for the 2018-19 season. Singh will end his three association with the Mavericks and it's related teams and the NBA, as he will now play in Canada, at least for the upcoming season.

The 22-year old has also represented the Indian national basketball team at the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship and the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship. He joined up with the national team for the 2017 FIBA Asia Championship as well.
