With Asiad bronze medalist Satish Kumar progressing into the semis of the Makran Cup, apart from the four other pugilists, India are now assured of five medals in the tournament held in Chabahar, Iran. The four other boxers are Manjeet Singh Panghal, Sanjeet, Lalit Prasad, and Deepak.

Apart from the bronze medal in the Asian Games, Satish was also the winner of the silver medal of the Commonwealth Games held last year, and was the clear favourite in his clash against blanked Turkmenistan’s Baky Toychyyev. Satish won 5-0 to get into the last four and would now face against Eeman Ramzan.

The other four boxers to advance into the semi-finals are Manjeet Singh Panghal from the 75kg category, Sanjeet from the 91kg category, Lalit Prasad from the 52kg, and Deepak in the 49kg.

Manjeet had an easy 5-0 win against Iraq's Ameer Mohaisen to enter the semifinals, while Sanjeet, who had won the gold-medal in last year's India Open, managed to get the better if Hungary's Adam Hamori.

The further lower categories saw current national champion Lalit Prasad easing past Mahdi Habibi 5-0 while Deepak defeated Beigi Mir.

Following this, the Indian boxing contingent would be participating in the 38th Gee Bee International Tournament at Helsinki, Finland, which has been scheduled from March 7 to 10. After a underwhelming 2018, the performances in this tournament would influence the male boxers’ chances in the Asian Championships to be held in April.
