KSCA managing committee member arrested in KPL corruption scandal

KSCA managing committee member Sudhindra Shinde has become the latest person arrested by the Bengaluru Police in relation to the KPL corruption scandal. Shinde was allegedly conspiring to fix games in the 2019 edition of the T20 league along with Belgavi Panthers owner Ashfaq Ali Thara.

With every passing day, Karnataka Premier League scandal is getting a new turn with former Karnataka cricketer and KSCA managing committee member Sudhindra Shinde becoming the latest name on the list. Shinde had represented Karnataka in 18 first-class games and has been involved with the state association in various roles after his playing career. He was the U-19 state team coach but relinquished the position after being elected to the managing committee.

"Shinde was arrested for assisting Belagavi Panthers owner Ashfaq Ali Thara in betting and spot-fixing KPL matches. He facilitated and had the knowledge," central crime branch Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Jain confirmed to IANS.

According to Bengaluru Police, Shinde runs a coaching club in Bangalore and came into contact with Thara after the latter began sponsoring his club. Shinde who was subsequently appointed "head of cricket" at the Belgavi Panthers, was alleged to have been involved in the malpractice of fixing games. The high-profile scandal has already seen the likes of Thara, drums player Bhavesh Bafna and Bellary Tuskers cricketers CM Gautam and Abrab Kazi being arrested for their alleged involvement.
