Karnataka spinner Krishnappa Gowtham shared that giving his best was the only thing on his mind while travelling long to be with the team, as he joined them late after tying the knot last Friday. He played a crucial role in the team's thrilling win over Tamil Nadu by claiming 14 wickets.

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu never fail to entertain whenever they face off irrespective of the format and the Ranji Trophy encounter between the neighbours was no exception. Having put up mammoth first innings totals, TN were set a target of 181 to clinch the victory but Karnataka all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham had other plans.

Gowtham scalped 8 wickets in the second innings, adding to his half-century in the first innings, to break the spine of TN batting in the run chase. The all-rounder shared that he tried to give his best having joined his team late after tying the knot last Friday and he surely made an impact.

“I don’t think there was anything else left to do. I gave it all. Travelling 10 hours by road and reaching here, I wanted to give it my best,” TOI quoted Gowtham.

Gowtham, who bagged 14 wickets in the match, shared that having one lethal delivery instead of a plethora of variations can be effective if used wisely. Gowtham is an off-spinner characterised by his impeccable accuracy and subtle variations in pace, which won him the man of the match award for the encounter.

“You need to vary your speed and your line and length. You don’t need to have 10 different deliveries. You need to have one delivery which is really lethal to trouble the batsman. That is good enough. I enjoy it when the pressure and responsibility to perform is on me. As far as accuracy goes, it is something we work on day in, day out. It should be there without saying,” the all-rounder pointed out.

Given the circumstances of the win, Gowtham had little hesitation in rating his final-day spell as one of the best he has ever bowled.

“This is one of the best spells I have bowled. It is not easy to bowl against TN, who have very good players of spin bowling. So you feel good about yourself when you take so many wickets against them,” he added.
