Coaches summoned for ignoring selection of legspinners in NCL, says BCB chief
The Bangladesh Cricket Board chief, Nazmul Hasan has removed two division coaches for ignoring the selection of legspinners in the ongoing NCL. Md Selim replaces Dhaka Division coach, Mohammad Jahangir Alam, while Jafrul Ehsan is the new Rangpur Divisional coach as Masud Parvez Razon was removed.
National Cricket League (NCL) is Bangladesh's premier first-class tournament and it focuses on the development of legspinners. The BCB had hence made it mandatory for the teams to field at least one legspinner in their playing eleven. But despite having legspinner Jubair in his squad, Dhaka Division coach Jahangir chose to sit him out for the first two games of the NCL.
But one could argue that at least Jubair was in the squad because as far as Rangpur is concerned, their leggie Rishad Hossain was not even included in the 24-man-squad, something that came to the notice of BCB chief Nazmul Hasan.
"We have summoned the two Divisional coaches for not fielding the two spinners in NCL," BCB chief Nazmul Hasan said in a press release, according to CricBuzz.
"If we don't let them bowl, how would they improve. They don't get any opportunity in any tournament. So we are working on it," he said.
"Even in NCL, I don't know why it happens. We are talking so much about legspinners, we have not played Rishad and Likhon yet in NCL," he added.
Nazmul further questioned and criticized the coaches for not giving enough playing time for the legspinners and not picking the best possible eleven. With India series fast approaching, developing legspinners was one of the priorities and testing them in the NCL was something that was planned by the BCB. The coaches are given time to give an explanation to the questions asked. BCB hopes that right chances will now be given to the legspinners and the strongest possible playing eleven will be fielded.
Ā "Why they are not in the best 11 while they are selecting the team. We have asked (the) two coaches to explain why they did not field them even after giving them the instruction. They must answer. We have called them. If we don't let them play, how would they come in?,'' Nazmul signed off.
