Dimitar Berbatov has advised Tottenham owners to stick with their current manager and overhaul the playing staff as pressure mounts on Mauricio Pochettino after a poor start to Spurs season. Speculations have started emerging that Spurs are looking for potential replacements for Pochettino.

Mauricio Pochettino’s job has come under heavy scrutiny in recent weeks after an awful start to Tottenham’s season. They are 13 points behind league leaders and have been thrashed 2-7 at home by Bayern Munich in UEFA Champions League. The Daily Mail has even reported that Jose Mourinho is one of the names being brought up to replace the Argentine with Gareth Southgate another option.

However, despite all their struggles former Tottenham star Dimitar Berbatov believes that Spurs should keep Mauricio Pochettino and instead aim to overhaul the players. The Bulgarian went on to say that Sir Alex Ferguson said the same thing and the same concept applies to Tottenham after their struggles this season which is what his former side needs.

“Pochettino is the guy that needs to stay there, he's been there for a long time. There has been a lot of talk about Mourinho taking over at Spurs, I think he would have difficulty as well. Would he make Spurs better? I don't know because it is the same team. Yes you can have a bit of a lift in the beginning, like Manchester United did when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in. Then you need to keep going otherwise you are going to slip into a spiral. I remember Sir Alex Ferguson telling us a team needs to be changed when four years passes,” Berbatov told Betfair.d

Berbatov, who won two Premier League titles with Manchester United and played for Spurs between 2006 and 2008, insists that the North Londoners should change things on the pitch rather than the dugout and also insisted that the squad members get a little complacent after a period of 4 years.

“Not the whole team but players. After four years some players start to get complacent and they aren't challenged. They are in with the manager and they are comfortable, so a manager needs to shake things up and bring in new player. I was thinking that this could be the case with Spurs, a lot of the players have been there a long time. Maybe they need to shake things up and try to push the players in a way,” said Berbatov.
