ISSF Junior World Cup | Saurabh Chaudhary secured gold in the 10m air pistol

Indian shooter Saurabh Chaudhary managed to secure a gold medal at the ongoing ISSF Junior World Cup in the men’s 10m air pistol event today. Chaudhary shot a total of 243.7 in the final to clinch the top spot ending up miles ahead of silver medalist Lim Hojin from Korea who scored 239.6.

In December last year, youngster Saurabh Chaudhary had qualified for the Youth Olympics Games with a gold medal and a junior world record at the Asia Youth Olympics Games qualification. The lad shot 243.1 in the final then. On Monday, India had completed the 10m air rifle sweep with Hriday Hazarika and Elavenil Valarivan winning gold in their respective events. 

However, 15-year-old Chaudhary shot a superb 243.7 in the final to clinch the top spot well ahead of silver medallist Lim Hojin from Korea who scored 239.6 in the finals. Wang Zhehao from China finished on the podium with 218.7 points.

The junior world record before this was 242.5 by Chinese shooter Wang Zhehao at the first ISSF Junior World Cup of the year in Sydney. While the other Indian in the final, Anmol Jain, fell short of a podium finish in Germany, as he finished fourth with 199.6.

Earlier in the qualification, Chaudhary had finished third with a score of 583, just ahead of Jain at 580. In the women’s 25m pistol final, unfortunately, both Indians couldn’t get on to the podium. Manu Bhaker sat fifth with 19 hits and Devanshi Rana was eighth with five.
