VIDEO | With LBW loud appeal, MS Dhoni silently runs James Neesham out

“Never underestimate MS Dhoni” - James Neesham learned it in the hard way when he was fooled the former’s appeal and forgot to return to the crease. Dhoni, on the other hand, knew his job pretty well as he outfoxed the Kiwi all-rounder by silently collecting the ball before shooting the stump down.

If he doesn’t perform with the bat, then he does it behind the stumps. MS Dhoni is such a cunning character that you can never really count him off the game. In the Wellington ODI, he failed to make any contribution with the bat, but his excellent brain fooled James Neesham to such an extent that he returned to the pavilion with an embarrassing smile on his face.

In the 37th over of the game, Kedar Jadhav bowled a low-arm slider which became even slower off the pitch. It was well in the course to be hit over mid-wicket by Neesham, but the batsman missed the sweep after stretching across too far and was struck outside of the line. The entire Indian team appealed for the LBW dismissal and for a change, Dhoni was very loud in that.

While the umpire immediately ruled that appeal out, Neesham, however, was more keen in wandering where did the ball go, but Dhoni was still appealing for the LBW. However, Dhoni had noticed that the ball was just behind him and slowly moved towards it, almost assumingly. Finding Neesham still outside of the crease, he suddenly made an under-arm throw to steal the wicket from right under the batsman's nose.

He was quite thrilled by his own effort and started celebrating the dismissal by jumping off his feet. It was unlike Dhoni, who has almost stopped celebrating wickets lately, but probably it was due to the fact how he could manage to dismiss a batsman with more with his brain, even without much effort. Neesham, on the other hand, was embarrassed by his own mistake and had a difficult smile on his face while returning to the pavilion.
