Running between the wickets is both about fitness and skill, but being alert is something that needs to be given more importance. Hardik Pandya was clearly not alert while running for a couple, which caught Trent Boult’s attention who turned to the third umpire to change the couple to a single.

Hardik Pandya just penned down a short essay and that is why he should be one of the first names on the team sheet for the World Cup as he took on Todd Astle effortlessly for three consecutive sixes in one over to take India past 250. While that was indeed impressive, he could have added one more run to his tally had it not been Trent Boult’s superb attention to detail.

In the 49th over of the innings, James Neesham bowled it straight in the blockhole and Pandya, however, could manage to jam it into the on-side. He saw an opportunity to go for a couple as he dropped his bat while completing the first run. However, when the bat touched the ground, his hand didn’t have any contact with the bat, but no one was able to spot that and Pandya was awarded a couple of runs.

Trent Boult, however, had a different view to this and he was sure that Pandya hadn’t touched the bat on the ground and immediately gave the third-umpire signal to the umpire, asking him to check for that. The umpire duly obliged him and went for a replay of the video and what flashed on the screen just magnified Boult’s colossal presence.

Pandya was found one short and the umpire asked the scorer to take one run off his score which meant India had to technically end with one run short of what otherwise would have been.
