After denying gymnast Dipa Karmakar’s early request for a physio for the 2016 Rio Olympics, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has now rushed her personal physio Sajad Ahmad to the South American city to help her. Dipa will compete in the final of the women’s vault final on August 14.

According to a report in the Indian Express, Dipa Karmakar and her coach Bishweshwar Nandi had requested SAI to allow their long-time physio Sajad Ahmad to travel with them to Rio, but the sports body deemed the request as “wasteful.”

The officials had questioned her, “You’re going alone, why do you need a physio,” upon the request, reveals the family of the gymnast. But now that she’s qualified, her requests are being adhered to. “Now that Dipa is proving to be India’s best shot, they’re hurrying to give her what she needs,” the family member added, reported Indian Express.

However, after her qualification to the vault finals, she once again requested the same to Sports Minister Vijay Goel, who is currently in Rio. After she became the first Indian to qualify for a final in gymnastics at the Rio Olympics, the ministry swung into action and urgently rushed the physio to Rio. Sajad Ahmad reached Rio on Tuesday evening and will help Dipa to get into the best possible shape for the vault final on August 14.
