Gujarat Fortunegiants coach, Manpreet Singh reckons that he always asks his player continue playing as they have so far throughout the Pro Kabaddi League this year. Sunil Kumar, who is leading the Gujarat-based team for the first time added that each player is valuable for the success of the team.

Gujarat Fortunegiants has had a brilliant season in the Pro Kabaddi League this year as they have managed to secure their spot at the top of Zone A fighting off the challenge posed by U Mumba. The Gujarat-based franchise has managed to register an impressive 93 points in their regular season campaign. The Fortunegiants have won 17 of their games, losing just three with two draws.

Coach Manpreet Singh, who has been credited as one of the architects of the team’s success since the made their debut in the league last year, claimed that he hasn’t put any pressure on his team as they made the play-off stage this year.

“Kabaddi is a fun game. I just tell my players to keep on playing as they have been, Winning and losing is part and parcel of the game.

“One should play according to their skill,” reasoned Singh. “The defender should only tackle when the raider attacks. They shouldn’t try and go in for an advanced tackle as long as the raider isn’t looking for a point. The same applies to the raiders. They shouldn’t forcefully go in for a point which isn’t there unless it’s a Do-or-Die raid. If we manage this then we should be able to do well going forward as well,” Singh said at a post-match press conference.

Sunil Kumar, who is leading a team in the domestic league for the first time in his career, has been one of the Fortunegiants’ leading performers throughout the season. The team has also managed to rotate the squad well, as different members of the team have played an important role in almost every match.

“For us, the team’s composition and our combination are key. The performance of each and every player is vital for us. Only if we are able to perform well as a team will we go ahead in the league. In the end, we have to play for Gujarat Fortunegiants and not for ourselves,” Singh concluded.
