Former India wicket-keeper Samantha Lobatto has consented to become the first female representative of the Indian Cricket Association (ICA) in the Mumbai Cricket Association’s (MCA) apex council. Initially, the Mumbai chapter for the ICA had received no nominations in the female category.

The ICA’s decision to approach Lobatto to fill in the vacant representative slot bore fruit as she gave her consent during their first Board meeting on Wednesday at the BCCI HQ in Mumbai.

“Like Mumbai, there are many associations, especially those from the North-East, where there’s no nominee in the female or male category, We’ve decided to approach people individually and appoint them for these positions,” a former cricketer said after the meeting, reported TOI.

Lobatto, who had featured in the three ODIs and an equal number of T20 internationals for the Indian women’s team in 2011, and former first-class cricketer Kiran Powar will fulfil the duties as the two-player representatives. The MCA’s apex council, which is headed by Vijay Patil, now has 16 members, with just a state government nominated CAG representative left to be appointed.

Meanwhile, it was also finalised that Jairaj Mehta will serve as the male representative in the Maharashtra chapter of ICA and he will, hereafter, sit in the meetings of the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA).
