Amjyot leads India to victory over Malaysia in Asia basketball championship

Forward Amjyot Singh pumped in 24 points and collected 10 rebounds to power India past Malaysia 102-73 in their opening preliminary round of the 2015 FIBA Asia Basketball Championship for men in Changsha-Hunan, China.

Akilan Pari scored 18 points and chipped in with six rebounds and four assists. India took a 47-32 halftime lead, following a 12-0 streak triggered by two free-throws by skipper Vishesh Bhriguvanshi.

India, currently World number 61, fired in a further 55 points in the remaining two quarters in their Group A opening game, and play defending champions and world number 17 Iran next in the group phase.

Japan is the fourth team in the group.
