Sakshi Malik clarifies her statement on Pakistani players
Sakshi Malik has insisted that the media was wrong in implying that she is advocating the inclusion of Pakistani players in Indian sporting events. She has clarified that she believes in a player's right to participate in any event but is not preaching that Pakistani players must be allowed.
Following the Uri attack, the tension between the two neighbouring countries has spiked, and it has left its impact in the field of entertainment and sport. Adding fuel to the debate about whether Pakistani players should be allowed to play in India, Sakshi had earlier provided her views on the freedom of a player's choice to play anywhere in the world. However, the 24-year-old has now claimed that the media had quoted her out of context.
"Media has been, since morning, wrongly highlighting that I want Pakistani players should be invited to participate in various international sports events. I haven't said anything like that.
"What I told was - players have all the rights - like we participate in the Games (Olympics) and we happen to play against other players, belonging to different countries ... I haven't advocated Pakistani players should be allowed to play in India," she said, reported PTI.
The Olympic medalist has also revealed that she would be interested in spending her well-earned money in the sport, where she would look to support upcoming youngsters who cannot pursue their dreams due to financial restraints.
