The Handball Federation of India has filed a petition against Indian Olympic Association, following IOA's refusal to include men's handball team in Indian contingent for upcoming Asian Games. In the petition, HFI has accused IOA of working under pressure from All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The Handball Federation of India has filed a petition against Indian Olympic Association after the IOA decided to exclude the men's handball team from the Indian contingent for the upcoming Asian Games. In the petition, HFI has accused IOA of working under pressure from All India Football Federation (AIFF). HFI, led by Indian Olympic Association (IOA) treasurer Anandeshwar Pandey, has taken the fight to the court after IOA refused to give a berth to the men's handball team in the Indian contingent for the upcoming Asian Games.

The HFI, through its joint secretary Nisheeth Nath Pandey, has filed a writ petition at the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday, asking the Court to direct the sports ministry and the IOA to forward the entry of the team to Asiad organisers. India's entry already figures in the Asiad main draw despite the country finishing 12th in the last Asian Championships in Korea.

Interestingly, in the petition, the HFI has accused the IOA of working under pressure from the All India Football Federation (AIFF). "….IOA is under pressure from other associations i.e the football association, which has a certain clout in the Olympic Association in order to get their team sent, is blocking the participation of the handball team," read the petition as quoted by TOI filed through HFI's counsel Akhilesh Kalra. The matter has been listed for hearing on July 16.
