India’s brilliant run at the Asian Age Group Championships further got better with N Wilson Singh and Satish Kumar Prahapati winning the yellow metals in the 10m platform synchronised diving event. It takes India’s gold medal count to 17, while the tally reaches 60 with 23 silver and 20 bronze.

The Indian diving duo managed a score of 290.19 as they went on to beat Uzbekistan’s Zaynetdinov Marsel and Khasanov Botir, who were trailing at 280.53 points. The bronze medal was won by Mojtaba Valipour and Masood Vakili of Iran, who scored 266.16.

“We are very happy with our performance. We prepared very well for these championships and the national camp in Pune was important to sharpen our skills. We are happy it has paid off. Divers from Uzbekistan were very good and we expected a good fight from them,” Wilson said, reported PTI.

In other event, Ramananda Sharma extended his good form to win a sliver medal in the 3m springboard for open category, while his compatriot Siddharth Pradeshi won the bronze in the same event here. While Ramananda scored 287.75 points, sitting behind Philippines’ Deorelar Francisco (295.70 points), Pradeshi could manage 282.15 points.

“I am slightly disappointed that I missed the gold. Philippines diver was flawless in all his attempts. I have a few more events left and hopefully I will do better,” Ramananda said.

The men’s water polo saw Japan winning the gold very comprehensively with a 21-6 win over Sri Lanka in their last round-robin league match. India, however, finished last in the six-team competition.
