Former tennis No 1 Ana Ivanovic calls it a day
Former world No 1 Ana Ivanovic has announced her retirement from professional tennis, saying she was unable to perform to her own high standards owing to injuries, and realised it was time to âmove on.â The Serbian ace won 15 WTA titles and the 2008 French Open in a career spanning 13 years.
Ivanovic made the announcement in an emotional letter to her fans on social media. The 29-year-old said it was an âextremely difficult decisionâ to make, but believes âthere is so much to celebrateâ.

The Serbian won the French Open as a 19-year-old in a spectacular run that saw her stun Amelie Mauresmo in the third round. In that year she also finished runner-up in the Australian Open and achieved the No 1 ranking in June.
She made it to the finals of the 2012 Fed Cup and 2013 Hopman Cup in team competitions.
However, she has struggled with her form and consistency due to injuries in recent years and that impacted her promising career. She had failed to impress on her return from injury last year.
This year she lost in the third round of the Australian Open and the French Open to Madison Keys and Elina Svitolina respectively. Her last victory on the circuit came in June
âMy goodness, I will miss your smile. All my love,â multiple-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams tweeted, as the global tennis community took to social media to bid adieu to Ivanovic.
