In an effort to smoothen the conduct of the domestic calendar, BCCI has preponed the annual meeting date, which involves the captains and coaches of Ranji teams, from after the IPL to February 28. Issues to be discussed in the meeting include reworking of the domestic calendar and team reservations.

With the Vijay Hazare trophy scheduled to end on February 27, BCCI’s general manager (cricket ops), Saba Karim has preponed the annual meeting involving coaches and captains of various Ranji teams from post IPL to February 28 this month.

The meeting would take place for the first time before the start of the Deodhar Trophy and the Irani Trophy, with the objective of discussing the problems related to the schedules that the officials faced during this year's Ranji trophy tournament.

"The remaining two tournaments are played between teams picked by the senior selection committee, barring the Ranji champions who play the Irani Cup. It's a good time to discuss the problems as they are fresh in the mind," a top BCCI official told TOI.

The domestic calendar had been reworked several times at the start of the 2017-18 season to accommodate the Duleep Trophy. This reworking of the calendar also led to the involvement of the chairman of the selection committee MSK Prasad along with the chairman of the technical committee and the chairman of the grounds and pitches committee.

The other urgent issues that needed discussing in the meeting was the viability of returning to the relegation system in the Ranji Trophy from next season and to check the reservations that were made for the current season, in which the teams were equally divided in four groups rather than three that were used until the 2012-13 season.
