The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rejected the pleas for the inclusion of Karate and Squash in the 2024 Olympics to be held in Paris. Breakdancing, climbing, surfing, and skateboarding have been included for 2024 Paris but it is subject to IOC’s approval at meeting from March 26 to 28.

There will be 28 sports with 319 events in the 2024 Olympics but there are four candidate sports to get the nod from the IOC. Paris 2024 has already announced the inclusion of breakdancing, climbing, surfing, and skateboarding for the games in France’s capital city. The inclusion, however, is subject to approval by the international body before the end of this month and the decision will be delivered in December.

Karate and Squash officials were pushing hard for the inclusion of the two sports but Kit McConnell, head of sports at IOC, has made it clear that it was too late for the decision to be taken regarding the inclusion. Although karate is a part of the 2020 Olympics to be held in Tokyo, it will now miss out from the 2024 list.

"Once the original proposal is made, it's over. The process was clear: we have explained that the IOC could not add any more sports. But we can cut one of the sports," McConnell told AFP.

"The proposal will be discussed during the meeting of the executive commission. And if the session approves the recommendation, these sports will be provisionally approved. The final decision will be made in December 2020."
