Greek Tennis star Konstantinos Mikos handed lifetime ban for involvement in match fixing

Greek tennis player Konstantinos Mikos has been issued a lifetime ban after being found guilty of attempted match fixing, as revealed by the investigation of Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU). Mikos was found to have approached Alexandros Jakupovic at a Greece F20 Futures tournament in 2013.

MikosĀ approached his compatriot Alexandros Jakupovic in 2013, and offered a payment for the outcomes of nominated sets, and to throw away the games.

"The approach offered payment in return for agreeing to lose nominated sets and games in a match at the event," read a statement from the TIU.

"In addition, Mr. Mikos was found to have operated two gambling accounts through which bets were placed on tennis between March 2012 and December 2013."

After the offense came to light, Mikos has been banned from all professional tennis with immediate effect and is not allowed to compete in, or attend, any tournament or event organized or sanctioned by the parent body of the sport.

Jakupovic has already been banned after being found guilty in a separate TIU investigation in 2015.Ā 

Mikos had reached a career-high singles ranking of 933 in August 2014 and was placed at the 1,536 position at the time of the ban.
