Huge opportunity in India for basketball to grow, says Harrison Barnes

American professional basketball player Harrison Barnes is of the opinion that there is a big chance for the sport of basketball to grow in India. Barnes, during his visit to India for an NBA event, also advised the young basketball players of the country to put in as much time as they can.

India is a country which has never done well at the international stage as far as the sport of basketball is concerned. However, Harrison Barnes has opined that there is a huge scope in the country for the sport to grow. The NBA player was in Greater Noida for an NBA event where he talked about basketball and the growth of the sport in India.

"So, I believe there is a huge opportunity here for basketball to grow and really be one of the major sports," Barnes told IANS.

Barnes represented Golden State Warriors when they had won the NBA trophy in 2015 and also played in the USA team that won a gold medal at the previous Olympics in 2016. The 26-year-old basketball player is now a member of the Sacramento Kings and is touring India for the first time. He also advised the Indian youngsters to give more time to the sport to be successful.

"I think it's important for players to really speak and be passionate about the things that they feel comfortable about. Not every player wants to do that but for those that do, they have unlimited resources at their hand," the NBA player explained.

"Biggest advice I would give to youngsters would be just to put in as much time as you can. This is a sport that takes time and repetition to get better and it's an unbelievable game."
