West Indian commentator Tony Cozier passes away

Tony Cozier, the West Indian cricket commentator, and writer, passed away at the Bayview Hospital in Beckles Road in Barbados earlier today. The 75-year-old, who has been one of the most revered voices in the cricketing world, fell seriously ill and was under doctors’ care from yesterday.

Winston Anthony Cozier was born in Barbados in July 1940, and became one of the most respected voices in cricket. Cozier was one of the lone voices from West Indies in the 1960s, and have been covering almost every cricket series involving West Indies from 1962. Cozier’s son, Craig is working as a producer in the ongoing Indian Premier League and is reported to have travelled to Barbados.

Cozier played studied journalism at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada and also played hockey as a goalkeeper for Barbados, and cricket as an opening batsman and wicketkeeper for two Barbados clubs. In 2011, he was awarded the honorary life membership of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for his services to the game. He played many hats during his career as a writer, journalist, commentator, and historian.
