Match-fixing allegations in Bangladesh Premier League again
The Bangladesh Premier League has again come under match-fixing scrutiny after one of the Rangpur Riders' players alleged that team manager Sanuar Hossain was bribing him to fix some matches. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have launched a probe into the allegations on Tuesday.
Jupiter Ghosh, a player from the Rangpur Riders, had alleged on Monday that team manager Sanuar Hossain had told him to fix match results just before the start of the tournament. He also claimed that he was dropped from the team after refusing to comply with the coach's proposal.
Taking the matter seriously, Bangladesh Cricket Board have
“The BCB is investigating complaints lodged by a cricketer of BPL 2016 franchise Rangpur Riders against an official of the same team,” the board said in a statement.
“The BCB recognizes that the allegations and counter allegations brought forward by the player and the official concerned, which includes breach of discipline and corrupt practice, are of serious nature.”
The BPL has had a bad reputation for match-fixing. In 2014, the tournament was suspended for a year when former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful, and four others, including New Zealand’s Lou Vincent, were found guilty of fixing matches during the tournament.
