Indian paddler Raegan Alburquerque lost the final match of the Egypt Open Table Tennis tournament against China’s Ding Shixiang to win a silver for India. The final had the fourth-seeded Indian facing Shixiang from China who was making his first International appearance facing each other.

Table Tennis player Raegan Alburquerque lost in the final match of the Junior Boys category in the Egypt Open 8-11, 12-10, 11-13, 9-11, 11-13 to his unseeded Chinese opponent Ding Shixiang. It was a disappointing end to the wonderful tournament for him as he looked in good form throughout the tournament.

Though most of the games of the final match were close affairs, the fourth-seeded Indian could only win one game of the five. Earlier on Sunday, Alburquerque had won his semi-final encounter against Marwan Abdelwahab 11-7, 14-12, 7-11, 11-3, 14-12 and was also expected to win the finals later in the evening but that was not to be.

In the final match, the first game was taken by Shixiang quickly but he came back in the second game and equalised. Thereafter all three games went up to the wire with Shixiang on the winning side in all the three thus clinching the title.

In another category of Mini Cadet Boys singles, Vishal Rajveer Shah defeated Badr Mostafa of Egypt in another straight game final to claim the title. He won 11-6, 11-6, 11-7.
