Former Bangladesh pacer Shahadat Hossain has been slapped with a year-long suspension by the BCB after he attacked his teammate Arafat Sunny during an ongoing NCL match in Khulna. According to reports, Arafat commented on Shahadat's incompetence to shine the ball, which provoked the latter.

In a rather bizarre turn of events at the Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna, former Test pacer from Bangladesh Shahadat Hossain attacked Arafat Sunny, one of his fellow teammates, during an NCL encounter bettween Dhaka Division and Khulna Division. His activities on the field has earned him a year-long ban from the game from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

Arafat had reportedly said that Shahadat was not competent to shine one side of the ball, which angered the paceman enough to launch an attack on Sunny before players came to the rescue. A BCB tournament committee official said, according to a Cricbuzz report, that the pacer has accepted the charges which mounts to a level 4 offence according to the BCB’s code of conduct.

"Under the level four offenses a player will be banned from participating in any BCB competition for one year while he will be slapped with a fine of Tk 50,000,'' said the official on Monday (November 18), reported Cricbuzz. "Shahadat accepted the verdict and returned back home. We have given the report of the match referee to the technical committee and they will decide his future but he has been barred of taking part in this NCL game."

Shahadat has accepted that the mishap took place in the heat of the moment but also highlighted that Sunny’s behaviour is what provoked him.

"I am not playing in the ongoing NCL match as I am suspended and I am not sure what will happen in future," Shahadat told Cricbuzz. "It is true that I lost my temper but he also misbehaved with me as he refused to shine the ball and when I asked why he answered in a tone that was degrading and difficult for me to digest,"  he concluded.
